Nach Inbetriebnahme einiger kleinerer Drehstrombahnobjekte im Inund Ausland (Italien), woran sich besonders die Firma AG. Brown, Boveri \u0026amp; Cie. in Baden (BBC) beteiligte (Jungfraubahn), wagte dieses Unternehmen die Anwendung der Dreiphasentraktion fiir den Betrieb der Burgdorf-Thun-Bahn, die als Vollbahn zum schweizerischen Normalspurnetz z. Als erste elektrische Vollbahn in Europa erfolgte im Jahre 1899 zwischen Burgdorf und Thun die Aufnahme des elektrischen Betriebes mit 750 V Fahrdrahtspannung und der Industriefrequenz von 40 Perioden. Da die Fahrdrahtspannung durch behVorschriften begrenzt war, rnusste das Netz durch eine Reihe von, mit einer durchschnittlichen Distanz von 3 km voneinanderliegenden, Transformatorenstationen bei 15 000 V Primarspannung gespiesen werden (Abb. 1).
