Description:
This book is the result of a contract enterred into by the States of New Mexico and Colorado and their Historic Preservation Societies. By the conditions of the contract, the authors were to provide an inventory of the property, a photographic record and a written report resulting ion a history of each peice of rolling stock and each structure. The Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad played a vital role in the settling of the West, and this particular remnant of the once extensive narrow guage railroads was significant in the mining, lumber, and livestock industries of northern New Mexico and southwestern Colorado. The book gives a vivid account of one of the few remaining living railroad museums and it will be of interest to history buffs and railroad preservationists. Includes both color and black and white photographs.
