INTRODUCTION
The Boston & Maine portion of this book, takes in the Old Northern RR plus the Franklin & Tilton Branch as well as the Bristol Branch. What I thought would be a rather slim book, became quite the contrary and it was necessary to make an insert of Concord proper using both sides as well as doing likewise at St. Albans, but only using one side with the latter. Even then, much material was not used due to lack of space.
Since Bob Jones has done such a remarkable job with his two volumes on Railroads of Vermont and his set of books on the Central Vermont Railway, I never dreamed I would unearth as much as I did without resorting to a lot of duplication. Fortunately, that was not the case as there is very little duplication.
Again, we have some very fine aerials, particularly on the "Charlie" Vermont. With the ever changing railroad structure here in New England, I was none too soon in putting this together as by the time you receive this book, the "Charlie" Vermont will have probably passed on to the new owners, Rail Tex of Texas. Let's hope they can reverse the trend of the past few years and the drastic down surge of handling on line traffic at the same time. I wish them the best and hopefully their success will rub off on one of their connections, the Green Mountain Railroad.
