PREFACE
The age of steam not only had fascinating steam engines but also an entire network of other interesting items. These included coaling chutes to supply fuel, and water wells, pump houses and water tanks necessary to supply the water to generate steam that powered the locomotives.
Although this is a reference book about Colorado railroad water tanks, there were tanks in New Mexico, Wyoming and Utah that were attached to important Colorado lines, such as the Antonito to Durango line and the Uintah Railway from Mack, Colorado, to Rainbow, Utah. State names are included only for those not in Colorado from here forward.
A word about mileposts: as any railroad enthusiast knows they changed! I use them here to supply some information about relative locations of tanks to other known stations.
All pictures are of the actual item. There may be reflection from the lights in some photos. We try to take photos of any damage. If this is a railroad item, this material is obsolete and no longer in use by the railroad. Please email with questions. Publishers of Train Shed Cyclopedias and Stephans Railroad Directories.
