These cars form the backbone of the railfan experience seen through the cameras of men such as Otto Perry, Dick Kindig and the many others who document them through Clear Creek up to Blackhawk and over to Idaho Springs and thence onward across the Georgetown Loop viaduct to Silver Plume. The C&S also went through Alpine Tunnel on the original Denver, South Park, & Pacific Railroad roadbed crossing the Continental Divide to access the coal fields west of Salida.
With the closing of the Alpine Tunnel, those lines eventually became the property of the Rio Grande.
Many of the cars shown in this book ended up on the White Pass & Yukon Railroad during World War 2 and some survive to today up on the reborn White Pass and in surrounding areas.
Many others have survived in Museums and collections throughout the US, though they may be painted to represent prior or subsequent owners of them so research is often needed for correct I.D.
