PREFACE
This is the sixth book in an ongoing all-color series on freight cars. I was happy for the opportunity to write this particular volume because of my fondness for the types of loads, mundane or exotic, found in these cars. Boxcars, reefers and covered hoppers pass us by, keeping the products they're hauling from our sight. Flats and gons, for the most part, leave their commodities out there for all to see. Boxcars, reefers, and covered hoppers have large sides which give the artists, or painters, plenty of "canvas" on which to practice their craft. With not much area to paint or stencil, flats and gons usually get the most rudimentary of schemes; hence, our sight is directed to the loads. That's why we selected, for the most part, only loaded cars. For you the modeler, who seldom gets to spend time with the "real" trains, we thought we would provide some inspiration on how you can turn the bits and pieces of material, that accumulate in your shop, into something that can be paraded around on your layout.
All pictures are of the actual item. There may be reflection from the lights in some photos. We try to take photos of any damage.
