PREFACE
This is the fourth volume of an ongoing series on freight cars. Your very positive response to this series has indicated to us that we are filling a definite need of the modeling and railfanning community. We will continue to work on the forty foot size cars and then tackle the prodigious job of the fifty footer. The hoppers featured in this volume vary in length from approximately 35 ft. to 42 ft.. Very few hoppers are exactly forty feet long. We have held the line on price, but rising production costs may force a slight increase for future volumes.
At this time we are announcing a new series to be published shortly after this volume is released. It will be titled CLASSIC LOCOMOTIVES, THE SERIES- VOL. 1: ALCO SWITCHERS S-1TO S-7. Authored by Keith Szachacz, (sha-haz), this book will cover, in full color, a representative sample, including roster and action photos, of the several hundred paint schemes in which these engines appeared. Through interviews with the men who operated these machines, the author will describe, by means of detailed captions, the nuances of their construction and operation.
All pictures are of the actual item. There may be reflection from the lights in some photos. We try to take photos of any damage.
