The River Cities have a rich and wonderful history. The Ohio and Sandy Rivers brought people and commerce together here long before Collis P. Huntington built his railroad through the valley. The railroad did make a difference though and the area grew to become an important part of post-Civil War development in the region.
WSAZ Television received the help of many people while compiling this pictorial history of Huntington. Thanks to them we were able to tell the story of the development of our great city. You will notice many scenes that still look familiar. Others offer a wonderful puzzle as you try to put the pieces together. We hope you enjoy all the history we've been able to put together in this book Please keep in mind that by no means is this a complete history of Huntington. There are many important events not covered herein.
