Years ago the line was affectionately called the CHILI LINE and by such it is still remembered. Abandoned in 1941, its forsaken roadbed makes a remarkable scar along the Rio Grande Valley. Hiking and horseback riding up Barranca Hill served to whet my curiosity about the iron horses which had labored there so faithfully. Research in Santa Fe and Denver ensued and with the help of John Norwood of the D\u0026amp;RGW and Mrs. Kay Pierson of the Colorado State Historical Society my quest continued.
