The word "official" in the title of this book requires definition. All the photography in this book is official photography but not all is Chicago & North Western official photography. Almost all the images in this book are from the Union Pacific Railroad museum's collection in Omaha, Nebraska. As everyone must know by now the Chicago & North Western was merged into the Union Pacific in 1995. There is probably no railroad more conscious of and concerned with the preservation of history than the Union Pacific. At the time of the merger the Union Pacific went to extraordinary lengths to insure that historical records of the Chicago & North Western be preserved, either by the UP itself or by the Chicago & North Western Historical Society.
All pictures are of the actual item. There may be reflection from the lights in some photos. We try to take photos of any damage.
