Partial Info
This book is an attempt to explore those places and to capture the special "look and feel" of the road in the states of Virginia and West Virginia. The time period stretches from World War II to the merger of Chessie System and Seaboard System to form today's CSX. We will follow the mainlines west from Tidewater and will explore, impressionistically rather than comprehensively, the numerous and intricate branches that supplied the rivers of coal that made the C&O one of the most profitable and stable railroads in the country. Whenever they were available, photos of steam and early diesel powered trains have been included. Later volumes will extend our coverage of the C&O west and north.
All pictures are of the actual item. There may be reflection from the lights in some photos. We try to take photos of any damage.
