Chesapeake and Ohio July 1986
President Tom Dixon discusses in word and photo the first heavyweight passenger cars in use on the C&O, while Chip Rogers brings us more memories of growing up on the Pere Marquette in Michigan. The FRONT COVER shows a heavyweight No. 5, THE SPORTSMAN, at the west end of Clifton Forge, Virginia yard in 1944. The coach in front of the sailor's car attests to the quality construction of those early all-steel products: this pre-World War I vehicle is still serving in 1944 (C&O Official Photo, negative 155). A post-war PERE MARQUETTE bears into a curve with E7 No. 102 just west of Detroit in August, 1946. See you at the convention(C&OOfficialPhoto, negative 1591)?
