DUST JACKET INTRODUCTION
Chasing the SP in California is a vivid and personal pictorial of the fascinating parade of trains across the west's first great railroad. It's a visual history of the transition period of the Espee when steam locomotives were working side-by-side with the new diesel-electrics. While still in high school, the author began taking photographs of the locomotives and trains around his Southern California home town. Later when he left his home and went north to college, he had his camera, film and time to enjoy the last of the Southern Pacific at San Luis Obispo. In 500 mostly never-before-published photographs, author Crossley gives you a never before seen glimpse of railroading in the Golden State, from the mighty Southern Pacific, to the Pacific Electric, with snapshots at other locations he visited.
