'THE SOCIETY is an organization to I facilitate the interchange of information and comment among all persons interested in the design, construction, operation, and development of New Zealand and other railways. their locomotives, and other equipment; to assist toward the preservation of material which will be of historic interest; and to foster an intelligent interest in rail- ways generally.
To these ends, the active support of all who arc interested in the attainment of these objects is constantly sought. Applications for membership are invited from people in all walks of life. Young people attending school or college may apply for junior membership.
Associate memberships are available (or persons residing outside New Zealand, and for libraries. Family and Local Memberships are also available in appropriate circumstances. Please enquire if you are interested.
THE NEW ZEALAND RAILWAY Observer is the Society's official journal.
Published four times a year, it concentrates on the task of placing on record, accurately and objectively, the important developments of the present day and the events of earlier years. It provides the basic means of disseminating reliable information about New Zealand railways and locomotives among members.
One copy of each issue of the "NZRO" is supplied to each member of the Society (except Family and Local Members) without further charge. and members may order extra copies if they so desire at reduced prices.
Other publications of a high standard arc published by the Society, and by branches of the Society. from lime to time. In this way. the Society ensures that the story of railways and railway. men in New Zealand will. as time goes by, be adequately recorded in the literature of our country. Whenever possible. these publications are made available to members at reduced prices.
OTHER ACTIVITIES of the Society include the circulation of railway and locomotive photographs and magazines among interested members, and the arrangement by Branches of the Society in several centres of meetings tot talks and discussions, film and slide evenings. and outings to places of railway interest. The preservation of locomotives and other equipment, and the active support of museums, is attracting the increasing attention of members.
