THE 1960s WERE ONLY IN THEIR SEVENTH MONTH WHEN THE Central Vermont participated in a truly unusual special passenger train operation-five diners and ten air-conditioned coaches accommodating 600 passengers. The National Life Insurance Company of Montpelier, Vermont, as a highlight of its Montreal convention, chartered this special train for a one-day trip from Montreal to Montpelier Junction and return. The train left Montreal at 7 A.M. on July 15, 1960, and arrived at Montpelier Junction at 10:15 A.M. The return move left the Junction at 5 P.M., and the CV transportation advice specified "It is desired that a four (4) hour running time be used between Montpelier Junction and Montreal to permit ample time for all persons to have dinner in the diners." The cars were marshalled: one diner, two coaches, one diner, two coaches, etc., with each coach having its own attendant. The CV pulled out all the stops for this train, as it was a first-class operation all the way.
