About the Book
The Central New England Railway Company is the end result of some fifteen or more carriers being merged, leased, bought, what have you, into the one carrier. This actually didn't come about in its entirety until well into its life as a railroad. This was after they took over the line between Hopewell Jct., N.Y. and Danbury, Connecticut from the NYNH&H by some sort of lease arrangement.
This volume will take us from the beginning of the several railroads, up through to their demise in one form or another, until we arrive at the birth of the CNE itself. That will be the starting point for Volume Two.
The first volume on the CNE has had some agonizing moments, particularly in the Dutchess Jct.-Fishkill Landing and Rhinecliff areas. Should I come across further information that will clarify its existence in the past, it will be passed on in the last volume. Too many conflicting accounts to put together what I feel is a presentable report on their initial construction as a rail transfer terminal.
