The "International of Maine" section of the MontrealSaint John "Short Line" of the Canadian Pacific Railway became a part of my railway experience in July 1945. Then a 19-year-old clerk in the Paymaster's office of the CPR's Treasury department, and almost three years into a subsequent 44-year career with that company, I accepted an opportunity to work as relieving payroll clerk on the CPR's Brownville Division pay car.
Thereafter, in the course of about one hundred trips spanning 15 years, I gained an intimate knowledge of train operations on the International of Maine, reinforced by my attendance at the late Percy Raines' train rules classes that gave me an in-depth professional understanding and
