The Commission cannot pay too high a tribute to the forebearance and public spirit which those most affected manifested under these trying circumstances. Now years of planning and skill have brought their reward and the first subway in Canada is complete. The work can reasonably be described as the most important in our city's history. It will substantially relieve traffic congestion, maintain and enhance realty values and assessments and do much to halt locally, the dispersive tendency that is so seriously affecting the future and credit of so many large cities on this continent.
