DUST JACKET INTRODUCTION:
The Cambrian Railways opened in 1858 and, until the Grouping, served the mid-Wales area. from Wrexham and Whitchurch in the border country, to Pwllheli and Aberystwyth via the coastal route, with lines as far south as Brecon. The Cambrian Railways linked, therefore, many South Wales' companies with the north and middle of England.
In the first Cambrian Railways Album C. C. Green took the story as far as the amalgamation with the Great Western Railway in 1922 - or, as locals would have it, when the Cambrian Railways took over the GWR. In Cambrian Railways Album - 2 we see the effects of the union which involved great operational changes with almost all the rolling stock either rebuilt or scrapped outright. As the Central Wales Division of the GWR the Cambrian survived the slump of the 1930s and World War II to become part of the Western Region of British Railways in 1948. And yet, despite all the changes of organisation and ownership, the Cambrian Railways have retained an identity, atmosphere and character of their own. It needs an expert to capture these feelings and C. C. Green is just that - his research is impeccable and in Cambrian Railways Album - 2 he has once again produced a mine of detail, memorabilia and personal stories to complement the 225 photographs.
