B.E. Pamphlet 20
114 pages
This pamphlet, containing excerpts from the D.O.T. Regulations, has been prepared for employees to assist and educate them in their particular duties. The pertinent sections of the Regulations applicable to rail operations have been assembled under the following functional categories: (a) General Requirements; (b) Loading Requirements; (c) Placarding; (d) Commodity List of Hazardous Materials; (e) Shipping Papers; (f) Inspection; (g) Switching; (h) Location of Placarded Cars in Trains; (i) Delivery; (j) Empty Packages and Cars; and (k) Hazardous Materials Incidents. Employees should become familiar with those sections of the Regulations which apply to their particular responsibility in the handling of hazardous materials.
This pamphlet is essentially a ready reference guide for normal conditions, and R. M. Graziano's Tariff No. 31 should be available and consulted for information not contained within this pamphlet.
The "Emergency Action Guide For Hazardous Materials Incidents", page 101, should be consulted for emergency actions to be taken when an incident or accident involving hazardous material occurs. Additional, more specific information and recommendations for the handling of hazardous materials incidents are contained in Bureau of Explosives Pamphlets 1,2,3 and 4.
