The history of the PGE is a tumultuous, scandalous, almost depressing story of a railway that for so long began in the southern wilds of British Columbia and ended in the interior parklands known as the Cariboo. Its conception was as a branchline of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway from Prince George to the deepwater port of Vancouver in competition with the Canadian Northern mainline.
