In other jurisdictions where the lines were already owned by the federal government, the lines were combined into a federal corporation. In the State of Sao Paulo had come to the rescue of ailing railroads early in their existence by assuming ownership, the lines were combined into a state corporation, Ferrovia Paulista S.A.. Branch and feeder lines were abandoned.
