A Beginners Guide to Railway Modeling by W A Corkill Hard Cover 1982 64 Pages
Introduction
Beginners are the most important modellers of all, for without them no hobby could continue to expand - or even to exist. To some extent their needs were met by Railway Modelling-An Introduction (David & Charles, 1979, ISBN 0-7153-7571-7), but in order to survey all the principal aspects of railway modelling in one moderately priced volume it was necessary in that title to keep the text fairly concise in the beginners stages.
This volume, however, is entirely devoted to the needs of the New Starter and it is intended to fill in many of the details which in the earlier book it was left to illustrations to convey. In compiling it I have enjoyed the co-operation and support of numerous manufacturers, model railway club members and other individuals for whose generous provision of time and facilities I am greatly indebted.
The finest book ever written, however, would be no real substitute for learning to use basic tools and materials yourself, under the expert guidance of an experienced craftsman at a modelling club or night school. This, then, may be regarded as a supplement to both the personal, practical tuition you need in order to become proficient with simple tools and the broader coverage in Railway Modelling.
Sound principles and techniques coupled with developing skills -keeping pace with increasingly ambitious projects - lead to the satisfaction which comes from truly creative use of leisure. May this satisfaction be yours; happy modelling to you!
