B&M PREDECESSOR RAILROADS: PART 1 ... compiled by Harry A. Frye38

FRONT COVER:
MBTA Train No. 1203 slows to a stop at Hamilton-Wenham Station on May 24, 1980. The consist on this warm spring morning was RDC-1's Nos. 6137 and 6124, RDC-9 No. 6924, and leased B&M GP7 No. 1561, still in her maroon & gold "Minuteman" livery.
By the time this picture was made, fuscia-colored stripes had been applied above the windows on some of the recently-rehabilitated Budd-cars, and push-pull operation-unheard of a mere three years previously-was the norm on virtually all of the former B&M commuter lines.
Trackside today presents a stark contrast to the rolling, rattling Budds and venerable Geeps. Motive power consists of modern 3,000 horsepower F4OPH's in silver & fuscia colors pulling (or pushing) similarly decorated cars from Pullman, Kawasaki or Messerschmitt. As for the RDC's: 6137 was scrapped at West Cambridge in 1993, 6124 resides at Yard 14 in Somerville, slated for scrapping sometime later in 1995, and 6924 was sold to Coach Cars, Inc. in 1990. The Geep's fate is unknown.
