Glossary
The first car was born in the fertile imagination of Leonardo Da Vinci, the great Italian painter of the fifteenth century. He conceived of a cart with two semi-axles which were turned by a horizontal center wheel. He could not find a source of energy to power his invention, however.
The development of the internal combustion engine by Bernardi made Leonardo's vision a reality before the turn of the
nineteenth century.
The automobile as an efficient means of transportation was born in the workshops of men who further refined the gas engines, the Germans Otto, Daimler and Benz.
