THE CHOICE OF RAILWAY GAUGE
AND MATERIALS
MOST of us start running model railways at a very early age, beginning perhaps with a two-foot circle and a clockwork train, and when a more realistic model of the real thing is decided upon we may have an accumulation of locomotives, rolling stock, and track which will decide the question of the gauge we are to adopt. Given a clean start, the principal factors are those of space and cost, with space an easy first, as a layout may be added to from time to time, but only if there is room for the desired extensions or improvements.
