This book is a compilation of AT&SF Railway's final motive power roster which became a subsidiary of Burlington Northern Inc. in 1995 and merged into Burlington Northern Railroad on December 31, 1996, forming the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company. The compilation includes all Santa Fe owned and leased locomotives carrying Santa Fe roster numbers. Since many locomotives belonging to the Santa Fe fleet kept their original identity long into the railway merger, the data presented is arranged to show when the Santa Fe locomotives were physically altered and renumbered to show them as BNSF Railway locomotives, if not previously retired. The entire fleet is presented in Santa Fe roster number sequence by model along with historical and technical data. Within the roster section, all photographs are of Santa Fe locomotives. Of the 160 all color photographs, 20 are BNSF Railway Company.
