Trains Magazine and the Evolution of American Railroad Photography
ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT COLLECTIONS of railroad photographs in America resides unceremoniously behind two pairs of unmarked blue doors in the middle of an office building in a western suburb of Milwaukee. You might go right past it as you walk down the muffled second-floor corridor. The only clue to what's inside is a small, framed, black-and-white portrait of a ruddy-faced, white-haired, late-middle-aged man in a characteristic dress shirt and tie, his face betraying the merest suggestion of a wry smile. Beside the portrait is a small sign: DAVID P. MORGAN MEMORIAL LIBRARY.
