The models pictured in this book were built to "HO" scale. The construction methods used are fairly simple-no machine tool or soldering iron was used. The primary building material used is wood with various other materials such as plastic, metal and cardstock also being utilized. Ambroid amber glue was the basic cement. Epoxies and some water base glues were also used. The basic cutting instruments were single edge razor blades ( of industrial quality) . Various small saws, files and miscellaneous small model builders tools and Floquil paints were also utilized.
The model-builder is encouraged to try new methods and materials. If you find a construction method you like, then perfect it. An effort was made to keep the cost of construction to a minimum which is reflected in the extensive use of plastic rolling stock. Of course, any make of flatcar or boxcar may be used as long as the desired result can be achieved. This could change the construction methods and the model-builder is encouraged to use ingenuity in building any model.
