The occasion of the Centenary of Euston and the London and Birmingham Railway seemed to the Directors of the London Midland and Scottish Railway to afford an opportunity for an historical retrospect, and accordingly they took advantage of the wide knowledge of the archives and of early railway history possessed by the Assistant Secretary, Mr. G. Royde Smith, to commission him to produce this volume, now offered to their many friends with all the due compliments of the occasion.
