N&W Norfolk and Western Employee Magazine 1973 November 15 Pocahonta
Norfolk and Western Magazine is published every six weeks at Roanoke Va. About the cover, The Cover and page 2 of this issue are on the subject of surface mining and reclamation in the coal fields of West Virginia. Surface mining, which uses heavy motor vehicles and other motorized equipment, is a $90-million-a-year business in the Mountain State. When surface mining is followed by reclamation and vegetation programs, Such as those of Pocahontas Land Corporation (PLC), NW subsidiary, the yield is useable and often beautiful land. Successful reclamation projects have shown that the land can be restored and can be even more valuable for building sites, recreation and scenic beauty.
The photographs were taken by Becky Bolin, assistant editor, and the cover was designed by Mary Abbott.
