Norfolk and Western Magazine is published every six weeks at Roanoke Va.
The cover photograph, made by PR&Adv staff photographer Jim Sutliff while on assignment for the Radford Division article (see page 2), shows a portion of fabled Draper's Meadows near New River in Virginia. This beautiful valley on our Bristol District was settled in the early mos, and was the site of several Indian attacks. The most famous one occurred in July, 1755 when Mary Draper Ingles, Mrs. John Draper. Henry Leonard and two children were captured. Mrs. Ingles and Mrs. Draper escaped a month later and in four months made their torturous journey via the Ohio River back to their home.
