ON THE BACK COVER:
Under 1974 kunde järnvägarna notera nya framgångar i
Järnvägsjubileerna blev många: I Sverige firades Nässjö—Oskarshamn,
ForssaHumppila ned.
During 1974, railways could record new increases in the
passenger traffic, partly because of the fuel rationing. The shortage of
passenger stock was sometimes noticeable: the NSB hired cars from the SJ, and
the SJ hired from the DSB, which had a certain spare capacity when building up
for K-74, the great timetable reform. In Norway, new EMUS were put into service
from Oslo to Mysen, Moss and Jaren, and in Finland new cars to carry motorcars
in express trains were delivered The railway centenaries were many: In Sweden
the Nässjö—Oskarshamn, Kalmar—Emmaboda and Malmö— Ystad railways were
celebrated, in Denmark the Lolland and Odsherred lines. A new train ferry route
opened between Ystad and Poland, a section of abandoned line reopened in Norway,
but in Finland the last narrow gauge line, Forssa—Humppila, closed Of this and
much else is told in the 240 pictures of the tenth edition of this annual
Motive power stock lists are included as usual.
