This Magazine marks the end of another publishing year. It's been an interesting one, marking the 40th anniversary of the end of Nickel Plate road steam operations and the 50th anniversary of the coming of the Bluebirds. We've ridden new SD9s, and looked at the present-day status of the Nickel Plate. To the authors of these pieces, and to all who contributed letters, reviews, photos, "Tack Board" questions and answers and "Along the Line" items, we say a heartfelt "Thanks."
Over the years, our Magazine has established an enviable reputation in the rail community. It's been a tough struggle, but it's been worth it. I think that all our members want a Magazine we can all be proud of. After all, the memory of the Nickel Plate deserves no less.
But, in order to maintain the standards we've set, we need help. There's a lot of Nickel Plate history still out there, waiting to be told. Did you work for the Nickel Plate, or have an unforgettable trip on Nickel Plate passenger service? What was the history of the Nickel Plate in your hometown? Did your family work for the company and pass down some stories from the cab, the shop or the station?
You don't need to be an accomplished author to get your piece of Nickel Plate history into print. We'll work with you to polish rough text and get your story out.
But first we need to get it. Can we count on you to help keep our Magazine a leader, and to help keep the Nickel Plate heritage alive?
