Learn about the Newfoundland Railway which served us so well for over a hundred years. Ride the train from Corner Brook to Port aux Basques and hang on as we pass Wreckhouse, where many trains were blown off the tracks. Hear stories of railroading in the forties and fifties, as related by the hardy men who worked with determination and pride. See photographs of locomotives, equipment and employees from the early days up to the last year of operation. Read, and see photographs, of the Botwood Railway and its 67-year history. The majestic Gaff Topsails is revisited in this book which will thrill old railroaders and travellers as well as nature lovers and historians. Have a pleasant journey
This series of books tells the story of the Newfoundland Railway, from the start of construction in 1881 until its closure in 1988. All private railways are covered as well. NEXT STOP: GAFF TOPSAIL (in its fourth printing) and NEXT STOP: WRECKHOUSE (in its second) are still available. NEXT STOP: ST. JOHN'S (the fourth and last in the series) is underway and will be published in 1999. The series includes in-depth taped interviews with more than 50 retired railroaders as well as over 600 photographs. To "ride" on all our 1000 miles of track, get the complete set.
