This photographic venture on the New York Central Railroad considers the two decades from 1944 to 1964. Starting at Boston, the book's sequence of pictures moves west over the Berkshire Hills to the Hudson Valley then across New York State into Ohio, passing through Cleveland, Toledo, and Cincinnati for a colorful look at Central's opera- tions. Side trips are made into Central Pennsylvania and down the Monongahela River Valley south of Pittsburgh. The southern pass on the NYC System enters Hoosier country before reaching St. Louis. Another run is made across the northern route from Buffalo through Canada to the Motor City, arriving at the final destination, Chicago. This journey captures the nostalgia of steam and first generation diesels in action mixed with a few units from Central's final years.
