Safety appliances in use at the present time which afford ample protection need not be reconstructed to comply with these standards.
The devices shown herein have been found by actual experience to be practicable and in no way detrimental to the convenience of operators or the output of machines.
The greater number of these devices have been evolved from ideas originating with officials and employees in local shops. In other words, these devices for the most part are home-made and for that reason, we believe, have proved more satisfactory because more applicable to the conditions to be met.
The systematic safeguarding of machinery being a subject of recent development, it is not claimed that the devices illustrated in this portfolio are all the devices which might be used to advantage. Therefore, when you have found by actual test that any safety device, not here specified, is effective and practicable and of such nature that it may be made a general standard, you will promote the cause of safety by calling the same to the attention of the Safety Department.
