That the present day services on the old London, Tilbury & Southend Railway lines are some of the most under-photographed in the country, there is no doubt. The reasons, one imagines, range from a sparcity of scenery to an overabundance of the somewhat dull looking Class 302 EMU. True, but there is still quite a lot of freight traffic to be seen east of Thames Haven Junction and, even from Pitsea to the terminus of Shoeburyness, the numerous units that ply back and forth from Fenchurch Street are capable of being recorded in a setting that is quite scenic. It is hoped that this selection of photographs that concentrate on the line from Barking via Tilbury to Shoeburyness may help to redress the balance of photographic coverage on the line, at least to some extent.
