There is one branch of Model-making that we would like to hear more about-Model Power Boats.
Many of our readers are interested in this subject, but they seem to be so widely scattered that it is a difficult proposition to get them together at a suitable lake where a real competition could be run off.
The writer has recently seen some very fine models of excellent design and workmanship, engined with power plants that really ought to set some records.
The steam power plants seems to predominate, but there are quite a number of fans who favor the gas engine and we know of at least four firms who are putting out some very compact and efficient gas engine plants for this purpose.
The greatest difficulty is to find a suitable lake, not to deep, and easily accessible for power boat racing.
Central Park, New York City has such a lake, also Lincoln Park, Jersey City, and Mirror Lake in Washington, D. C., but a model power boat is a heavy and cumbersome thing to carry unless one has a car.
In England Model Power Boat Racing is very popular and there they seem to favor the straight away course from one definite point to another. This has the advantage of showing up the good steering qualities of a boat.
Here, in the East, we favor the circular course, with a fixed pole and 50 ft. cord. The course to consist of a certain number of laps. Each boat has to cover the same course. That means the same distance for each boat, and in clocking the runs  perhaps a closer comparison of the speed of each boat can be estimated. The disadvantage of this method is the time required as only one boat can be run at a time.
For those interested in making working models.
