Model a transition-
era freight car fleet
The period between 1940 and 1960 is one of the most popular time frames to model. Railroad equipment, technology, and operations changed significantly during this transition era.
Much of the fun of modeling this era is being able to choose freight cars from hundreds
of railroads. Freight Cars of the '40s and '50s describes the construction, variations, and uses for the freight cars produced and operated during this period. There is also a chapter focusing on paint and lettering and another just on trucks and brake gear.
The book details these freight car types:
Boxcars
Refrigerator cars
Hoppers
Gondolas
Tank cars
Flatcars
Stock cars
