Welcome to the Missouri Pacific Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipment. This volume has as its focus the rolling stock of the MP from about 1960 up to the mid-1980's. Although the book may be titled "Missouri Pacific" it will quickly become apparent that the road employed the fascinating "practice of marking equipment, particularly freight cars, with subsidiary road reporting marks. Missouri-Illinois, Texas & Pacific, International-Great Northern; all these and more were kept alive by the usage of their reporting marks, a reminder of days gone by. This practice continued right up to the end of the railroad's separate corporate identity, even using C&EI reporting marks after part of that road's rolling stock was acquired by the MP in 1967.
