The Lynton & Barnstaple Railway
ALTHOUGH closed as long ago as 1935, the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway still exerts an extraordinary fascination. It remains undoubtedly the most loved of all English Narrow gauge railways, for a whole variety of reasons. Its locomotive and carriages were exceptionally attractive, its buildings possessed immense character and it harmonised with the Exmoor landscape in an altogether delightful way. It was a line that should never have closed.
This full account of the Lynton & Barnstaple by G.A. Brown, J.D.C.A. Prideaux & H.G. Radcliffe is the most detailed yet written. First published in 1964, it went through many editions. Now, in response to ever increasing demand, it is being made available in a wholly new format and concept. The original and now classic text has been retained, but there are numerous additional photographs - including many hitherto unpublished - together with more comprehensive picture captions. Plans and surveys have also been augmented, the illustrations as a whole benefitting from the larger page size.
Hence this is an essential book for the growing number of Lynton & Barnstaple enthusiasts. Modellers especially will benefit from having the full history, a superb selection of photographs and numerous scale drawings in the pages of a single volume.
