Introduction:
We would have liked to include more photos of steam locomotives in this album, but had difficulty locating some of the smaller models to photograph. Alert collectors will pick up as many of these smaller models as they can. Almost every Lionel collector tries to obtain a #773 (see cover) but most neglect the smaller steam locomotives altogether.
We were able to include photos of some of the smaller box cars - these also tend to be neglected by collectors, while everyone tries to collect as many of the 6464 as he can.
There's no denying that the Military & Space Cars Lionel produced between 1958 and 1964 turned off many collectors. Even now these cars are shunned by many people. As a result, they may be even scarcer in mint condition than many of the fabled 6464 series.
You may find that one particular car seems to appeal to you above all others. If so, pick up all of these whenever available, regardless of condition. After you've accumulated 2 or 3 hundred Liquified Gas Cars, for example, you are bound to have some effect on the price of the car. You may even uncover one or more varieties unknown to others.
