This book tells the story of Kansas' first great railroad, the Kansas Pacific. And I do mean that; it isn't just hype. The story of the KP involves dramatic characters, furious battles, and savage terrain. This book will present that story with the passion it deserves.
The KP's main line ran from Kansas City to Denver, connecting two of the most important cities of the central U.S. It opened the era of the "Wild West," then brought some of the first settlers to western Kansas. The KP's story sometimes gets lost next to its large competitor, the Union Pacific. This book will try to set the record straight.
