Preface
This volume contains the Presidential Address of Sir Hugh Bell, Bart., and the papers presented at the general meeting of the Iron and Steel Institute in May 1907, with the exception of the memoirs submitted by the Carnegie Research Scholars. These memoirs are published in a separate volume.
This volume also contains a report of the annual dinner, obituary notices of deceased members, library reports, and the usual record of progress of the home and foreign iron and steel industries during the first half of 1907.
Owing to the overwhelming amount of material to be dealt with in the notes of progress it has been found necessary slightly to modify the arrangement of the type in order to keep the volume within reasonable limits.
