ABOUT THE BOOK...
On April 1, 1976, the Central Railroad of New
Jersey disappeared into the Conrail system, a sys

railroad disappeared, but rather a look at the
diverse diesel motive power that made the Jersey
Central unique.
The year was 1924 and during that year, General Electric and Ingersoll-Rand placed an "oil-electric" locomotive in a demonstration tour of selected railroads. The CNJ, being one of these roads, hosted this locomotive for a 35-hour tour which included a run to Harrisburg in conjunction with the Reading.
