EDITORIAL POLICY: The Indiana Magazine of History is interested in articles and documents pertaining to the history of Indiana and the American Middle West. Consideration is also given to significant items about American history generally, especially if they have obvious relevance to the history of Indiana or the Middle West. Articles or documents regarding the interplay between Canadian and Middle Western history are also invited for review. The editors are interested in articles and documents concerning economic, social, and cultural history as well as those regarding political history. Biographical sketches of important persons are invited, though such sketches normally should not exceed fifteen to twenty printed pages. In reviewing articles and documents the editors give particular attention to: (1) importance or significance of content; (2) adequacy and accuracy of basic information; (3) adequacy and accuracy of citations and quotations; (4) organization; and (5) readability. Articles should be prepared with the general reader as well as the scholar in mind.
Articles and documents submitted should be prepared in accordance with established practices as indicated in previous issues of the Indiana Magazine of History. These practices approximate those described in the Chicago Press's Manual of Style, and especially in the case of format for citations. All copy should be double-spaced with wide margins; footnotes should be typed on separate pages at the end of the article or document. Both the original and a carbon copy should be submitted, while the author, of course, should retain a carbon for his own use since items accepted for publication become the property of the Indiana Magazine of History. All commitments regarding publication of articles and documents, however, are contingent upon final and accurate verification of basic facts, quotations, citations, etc. Responsibility for such verification rests with the contributor and not with the editors of the Magazine.
Correspondence concerning proposed articles or documents should be addressed to: Editor, Indiana Magazine of History, Indiana University Library, Room 48, Bloomington, Indiana. Except during the vacation period in August and early September, items submitted are acknowledged within two or three weeks of their receipt.
SUBSCRIPTIONS: Membership in the Indiana Historical Society includes a subscription to the Indiana Magazine of History. Back copies of issues dated 1926 to the present are $1 each (except in a few cases where supply is very low and the charge is $2). Copies of available issues dated 1905 through 1925 are $2. In instances where inventory for a given issue is extremely low, back copies will be reserved for libraries maintaining a file of the magazine. Checks for back copies should be addressed to: Editor, Indiana Magazine of History, Indiana University Library, Room 48, Bloomington, Indiana.
