Steam trains have always fascinated thousands of people, from the romantics who dream about the mystique of travel of yesteryear, to the buffs who devote themselves to identifying the different' classes of locomotive. IRONHORSE - A History of the Steam Train, with its many beautiful and exclusive illustrations, is a celebration of the development and history of of steam locomotion which it will satisfy both these passions for steam.
The impact of steam locomotion, from its first tentative use in the early eighteen hundreds, was dramatic and constituted the single most significant development of the Industrial Revolution. The expansion of th modern world and the growth of the British and European empires were all greatly affected by the capability and potential of the locomotive.
