People actually seemed to have had more time then. They had an abundance of time, apparently, to "change cars" and to wait for another train.
Grandfather, in his linen duster, liked to tarry three hours at Danville Junction-a scene now gone forever - Grandfather, his linen duster, the Junction itself.
There was a mystery and a thrill then, in a journey by local passenger train, with that inevitable "change of cars", at some busy transfer point, such as Danville Junction, Ill.
A 100-mile trip by local train at the turn of the century constituted a real adventure when rails were indeed the only trails, when the passenger train and especially the local passenger train was supreme in the transportation field.
