Introduction
This book is a compendium of only a small portion of railroad slang and vernacular. It will become evident to the reader that many of these expressions have crept into common usage in the American language. The use of railroad "slanguage" always was colorful, quite descriptive, and frequently concise.
As the reader will notice, many of the situations depicted on these pages are identified with safety. Most railroaders agreed with the Bible that, if they weren't quick, they might be dead!
